So Much New Stuff Being Looked at by the State Board! Where to Begin?
Short on time today. I attended the State Board of Education work session yesterday and got a first look at “preliminary” budget, policy and legislative priorities for the ALSDE for FY14 (October 1, 2013, to September 30, 2014). It was another jaw-dropping session.
Here’s Part 1 of the video. Here’s the accompanying PowerPoint.
Here’s Part 2 of the video. Here’s the accompanying PowerPoint.
In the first PowerPoint, slide 5 reflects the guts of the reform efforts State Superintendent Dr. Tommy Bice is putting forth. Again, it was jaw-dropping. The details are not included in the PowerPoint, but details were provided at the work session (and is available in the video). As soon as I am able, I will scan the details and share them on the Tales from the Meeting blog.
Everything from state-sponsored virtual schools to Teach for Alabama (modeled after Teach for America) to funding schools based on need to…well, if you want to know now, you’ll need to watch the video yourself.
Look for notes Monday Tuesday Friday at the latest. (updated Wednesday…sorry, lots going on this week.)
