Help Wanted, Please – What Do You Want to Know About?
I need to know what kind of stuff you want to know about. Specifically. I am launching the Alabama School Connection Family and School Partnerships Academy (yeah, long name, I know) that will allow me to gather and share information that will help parents and families be better partners in our children’s education. Not just in this blog format, but in an online learning environment, where you can access it 24/7, any time of the day or night, at your convenience.
The folks at TechKnowledge on Demand (a company housed at the Innovation Depot in Birmingham) have the coolest online learning portal where you can keep track of the stuff you’ve already viewed, and also go back and access it really easily. We are in the process of building the learning portal right now!
Plans are to launch it mid-April with a few courses (each about 5 to 8 minutes long) that can inform and engage you and help you be a better partner in your child’s education and advocate for your child and your school community. It’s kind of like a “parent university”, but it’s less about parenting and more about how to best engage in our school community.
But this is where I need your help. What do you want to know? What areas of Alabama’s K-12 public school system would you like more knowledge about? What board members are supposed to be doing? How to read a school budget? How to find out how much money your school district is spending? How to become a school board member? How to approach your child’s teacher if your child is struggling in a class? When to go over a teacher’s head with a problem you feel isn’t being handled?
You get the picture. It would be easy for me to just create a whole bunch of courses/videos/material and post it online and you could look at it if you want, but I would rather take the time creating and gathering information that is meaningful to and needed by those who read this blog.
Please reply below or on the facebook page. Or send me an e-mail at asc(at)alabamaschoolconnection.org. If neither of those communication methods work for you, take a minute and tell me anonymously through this survey. I could really use your help, please. And this isn’t a one-time request. I will continue to create and curate content for the Academy as long as there is new stuff to learn.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
