Talking About Education in AlabamaOn Friday, January 30, the Alabama School Connection is hosting a conference for education information professionals.

Who is an education information professional? Any member of any media who regularly reports on education and any school public information officer, who quite often is the superintendent.

The conference is being held at the Hoover Public Library and will begin at 10:00 a.m. Registration and introductions begin at 9:00 a.m.

All meetings held at the library are open to the public, and if you’d like to join us, please feel free to do so. The meeting room does have limited seating capacity, and those who are pre-registered will be seated first.

In the first session, we will hear from a panel of media professionals from print, radio, and television who will share with us their experiences and challenges in reporting on education in Alabama. The panel includes Dan Carsen of WBHM 90.3 and the Southern Education Desk, Linda White of WVTM-13, and Jon Anderson and Marie Leech of al.com.

The panel discussion will be moderated by Dr. Suzanne Martin of transform.

In the second session, we will hear from State Superintendent Dr. Tommy Bice, who will share his thoughts on how we can all have a better conversation about education in Alabama.

Here’s the agenda.

Sincere appreciation to those who are making the time to join us. We plan host a second conference near the start of the 2015-2016 school year.
