Today is the last day the Alabama School Connection will publish new content. It’s time to say goodbye.

But only for a moment.

Beginning Monday, I will begin a new job as statewide education reporter for Alabama Media Group, publishing online at al.com.

I’m thrilled to be given the opportunity to expand the conversation to AMG’s readers. After all, our motto is “propelling K-12 education into Alabama’s everyday conversations”, so where better to do that than on Alabama’s largest media outlet?

Even though the future is bright, I’ll admit that saying goodbye here is difficult. We have created our own community through this site and through our Facebook page, and I count you all among those who are most passionate about education in our state.

It’s easy to have a conversation with those who truly care about the subject matter.

To keep the conversation going and to take it to a larger audience, I’ll need your eyes, ears, and voices. Please follow me to al.com to stay informed about what’s happening in education in our state.

Many have asked what will happen to the content on this site. All content will stay online at least through the end of this year, and most likely through June of next year. Maybe we’ll even find a host to preserve the site completely intact. We’re certainly working on it.

There are too many people to thank for supporting the ASC to do it properly here, but there are a few folks I’d like to mention.

Our board of directors has been with me since the beginning and have never wavered in their belief that we were on the right track, filling an information void about our schools and providing truthful, fact-based information to our readers. Thank you Gwen, Joan, and Ginger. I’m eternally grateful for your believing in me.

To those who have donated money to support the ASC, thank you. We truly couldn’t have stayed online as long as we did without your support.

And to our readers….thank you. You proved there is a desire and a need for the type of information we’ve shared through the ASC site.

Though I’m moving online locations, I’ll still be writing the same type of state-level education news that you’ve read here over the years.

See you soon.
